Make, Do, Mend: Will you be my pair?

WillYouBeMyPair

Though me and my husband are not huge fans of Valentines day we still tend to give each other a little card or a present, but don’t really make a fuss out of it. I don’t know about you, but the idea of sitting in a restaurant full of couples makes me want to run for the hills!

So in the name of keeping things simple I made a little card for him.

Pears2

I turned to our fruit bowl for help and took a picture of a pair of pears. I found some good free fonts through this brilliant blog and put them to use.  The line I ended up with was “Will you be my pair?” (it reminded me of primary school when we had to choose a pair to walk to the swimming baths with). The result is a super simple but sweet card with not much hassle at all.

We’ve said it before (Remember our Blue Valentine?) but I’ll say it again – in Finland Valentine’s day is called a ‘friends day’ so let’s share the love with all those special peeps in our lives!

For Days Like These: Blue Valentine

The three of us at tracks of foxes aim to share with you some crafty projects we’ve been putting our hands to, some adventures we’ve been spending our time on, we also thought we’d share with you some of the stuff that fills our stereos, book shelves, screens and tummy’s on emotional days, hope you might identify with some days like these.

I’ve always much preferred Valentines when I am single. There is something about the ‘pressure’ of it when you’re in a relationship that gives me the panic. I might have to admit that there was one time when I gave in to the panic on a Valentines and bailed on my boyfriend cause I couldn’t cope. It wasn’t until later that I found out he had a surprise for me that was foiled by my freak out. I feel bad about it now so don’t judge me.

As the only single fox,  and I mean ‘fox’ in the ‘tracks of’ sense not in the ‘foxy’ sense …because there are plenty of them out there, it has fallen to me to do our Blue Valentine’s post. So things to do, listen to, watch on Valentines when you don’t have a valentine.

3. For Blue Valentine Days

Listening:

If you are feeling particularly bitter, pining or just fancy some love-y related tunes:

Song for the dumped…Ben Folds Five  – with a line like ‘I wish I never bought you dinner right before you dumped me on your front porch. Give me my money back, you b**ch’  it can only bring a smile to your face.

Somebody that I used to know… Gotye  – Gotye are now at number one, wooooo!

I Want You To Want Me… Letters to Cleo – Their ‘Cheap Trick’ cover is on the ‘Ten Things I Hate About You’ soundtrack takes me back to the days of my unhealthy teenage obsession with Heath Ledger, RIP.

Robots … Dan Mangan – ‘Robots need love too, they want to be loved by you!’

Dust on the Ground… Bombay Bicycle Club

Hollywood … Angus and Julia Stone

Watching:

I remember about 6 years ago I was living above a nail salon and  all of my friends got boyfriends at the same time and suddenly I had no one to hang out cause they were all busy making out.

You could say that I was bitter, but not because I was desperate for romance, in fact it was romance that had pissed me off. I was angry at romance for stealing my friends.

So in my campaign against romance, I went through all of the action and thriller films in blockbusters which was conveniently located just across the road. Unfortunately i am a little bit of a jumpy gal so I needed to also hire out a Disney film to watch afterwards so that I could still sleep!

So from my blockbuster experience:

Kiss the Girls

Sleeping with the Enemy

The Bone Collector

Alternatively ‘Bridesmaids’ provides a more than sufficient laugh on any night.

OR if you’re thinking of heading out to the cinema..

The Woman in Black.

Showing at 18.20 or 20.50 at Watford Vue.. in case you’re interested!

Consuming:

Today in the post I received ‘Mexican Food Made Simple’ by Thomasina Miers so I have a bit of a one tracked mind and suggest making some GOOD mexican food. Good mexican food always leaves me contented, unless I have had too many refried beans!!

Or, you could just get a Marks and Spencers dinner for two .. for one?

Anyway, hopefully you find a few helpful tips if you’re having a ‘Blue Valentine’ however I have it on good authority, from Hanna our resident finn, that February 14th in Finland is actually called ‘Friends Day’.

So I say hang out with some good ones that you know, love them, have fun and do whatever the hell you want!

Happy Friends Day!
