Found: Terry’s Harmonica.

photo 1-1

I have a real fondness for old things. Old films, books, crockery, clothing and people. Why? I think it’s because of the stories. I love being reminded of the people that have gone before and survived this thing called life. I love the thought that the dress I’m wearing has been a part of someone other ladies story and memories and now is part of my own. Romantic and cheesy? Oh yes!

All that is to offer some form of prelude to one of my favourite birthday presents.

Last year, for my birthday, I was given this Hohner Chromatic Harmonica.  Beautiful and old. I love it, not because I have managed to master the art of the lovely mouth organ, sadly, but because of the original gift tags.

Here’s to you Terry and Jill, I hope your lives were full of love and the harmonica.

Found: Extracurricular Magazine

In celebration of ‘Good Thursday’ and Easter break here is a little publication that, coupled with some bourbon, has warmed my little heart this last week.

photo (2)

Thanks to Rohan Anderson, Whole Larder Love, instagramming I stumbled across this beautiful publication ‘for creative folk’ that comes out of New Zealand. Every thing good comes from the South Pacific.

Extracurricular magazine is a proper treat. Courtesy of the last issue I now have grande plans to make some homebrew, homemade ice blocks (if the sun ever arrives) and a little dinosaur terrarium. (!?!)

Looking forward to the next issue ‘New Beginnings’ which is timely as I am coming to the end of a long old chapter and starting a new little adventure in the next few weeks.  You can pick up past issues and the New Beginnings issue at BigCartel.

If you want to see pretty things, have good ideas and be inspired this little magazine is what you need to get your hot little hands on.  True.

They also have a sweet blog chockas with beautiful things, ideas and artists.

Thank you New Zealand for making something so special that we get to enjoy!

Found Things: Songs for the middle of the week…

Wednesday, it’s that time of the week that the fun and relaxation of last weekend feels like a distant memory and this coming weekend feels an age away. Also, I have been reliably informed from someone at BBC radio Berkshire that, apparently, you feel your ugliest at 3.20pm on a Wednesday?

But here are some sweet songs and pretty videos for the last hump/ugly day in March!

Julia Holter – In the Same Room

Lord Huron – She Lit A Fire (From the album Lonesome Dreams)

Samuel Lane‘s new album ‘The Fire’

the fire

Fleet Foxes – The Shrine/Argument

Featuring beautiful illustrations from Stacey Rozich.

Happy hump/ugly day and it’s nearly Thursday which means it’s nearly the weekend! Hot Dang!

Found: Moleskine postal notes

Do you remember when you used to play that story telling game in school? The one where you would each say a line in the story? The one where the boys always used to say ‘And then she died’? Well, I think this is a really cute way to write a story with someone lovely that you know. You can write a little bit and pop it in the post. They can write a little bit and pop it in the post.

Or

You can just send someone a notebook full a snazzy thoughts, pictures and bits and pieces just because you can. Thank you Moleskine

Found: OhhDeer.com

After smashing some sushi in my face and washing some tramadol down with diet coke I realised, with 15 minutes left of lunch, that I needed to come up with a little post for today.

So, OhhDeer.com is somewhere that I regularly find myself putting things in my online basket and never checking out. Sometimes that works well. You feel as though you scratched your shopping ‘itch’ and then sometimes it’s depressing because no beautiful and magic packages arrive at your door.

Anyway, it is full of fun, beautiful, mystical art work that is entirely reasonable in price.

Some of my favourite illustrators are featured Jamie Mitchell… Who doesn’t want a polar bear with a beanie on called BOB!?

Sandra Dieckmann … ‘Hello bear on the back of an eagle with laser eyes!’

and Mark Callaby with his err .. ‘Great tits!’ hahaha!

Enjoy perusing this sweet website chockas full of beautiful illustrations.. before you know it half a day is gone and your pretend online shopping basket is full as a gook!

Still got 6 minutes left… Coffee?

Field Trip: ‘The Cat’s Meow’

Today I awoke thinking about how much I would like to go Lindy- Hop dancing.  Lindy – Hop dancing is brilliant, ladies look pretty hot and snazzy when they’re doing it, men look super hot and snazzy when they’re doing it.

What is there not to love? I want to look pretty hot and snazzy while dancing with super hot and snazzy.

A few months ago we went to ‘The Cat’s Meow’ in London Bridge to hear the Rock n’ Roll band ‘The Picadilly Bullfrogs’ and do some Lindy-Hopping. It’s a dirty student bar that was transformed into a vintage world war 2 venue with everyone dressed the part and looking… yep, pretty hot and snazzy AND super hot and snazzy!

There was a variety of ages, from young things to old. There definitely were a few characters there that I imagine may have been the first to dance the Lindy- Hop steps, if you get what I mean.. I was a little concerned that hip replacements may be necessary!

It was a brilliant night and I am desperate to go again, however,  I encountered these problems that I, in my excitement, hadn’t anticipated.

1. I don’t know how to ‘Lindy – Hop’.

2. I always get asked to dance by an awkward, VERY insistent bald man (not super hot and snazzy!) who ignores my ‘I don’t know how, I DON’T KNOW HOW!’

3. It then, inevitably, is the longest song possible.

4. I can’t dance with strangers without apologising incessantly for my bad ‘moves’ and STARING intently at my feet so as to avoid eye contact.

Actually, on rereading these problems I have decided that, pretty much, you can apply these problems to anytime I have tried dancing or even just any part of my life!

Dang it!

On second thought maybe I won’t be going Lindy- Hop dancing, not today anyway.

But if you are much smoother than I, which let’s be honest isn’t too hard, and you want to give it a go then the next

‘The Cat’s Meow’ is on Saturday 16th of June.

I recommend going with a bunch of lovely people that you can giggle with, drinks are cheap too, which may … or may not aid you in your Lindy-Hopping!

Celeste xx

p.s. We’re just 100 views away from 10, 000! Eek! So exciting!! Keep an eye out tomorrow for a give away! 🙂
