Linger: Doone Valley

We have just returned from a little camping trip in the Doone country in the beautiful Exmoor. I haven’t ventured down to this part of the country before and completely fell in love with the wild moorlands, ancient woods and beautiful coastline.

We chose to stay in a small campsite called Cloud farm, nestled right in the middle of the hills by a river, mainly because of the child friendliness of it (we had our cute little god daughter in the mix!). From the campsite we were able to go for leg breaking walks through the woods and over the hills and reward ourselves with a yummy cream tea in the near by deli.

In the evenings we had campfires, cooking our dinner of jacket potatoes and corn on the cob on it, and obviously roasting some marshmallows! (We missed out on doing s’mores though – dang!)

I was also inspired to read Richard Doddridge Blackmore‘s novel Lorna Doone that is based in this gorgeous corner of the world.

All in all it was a great mix of activity, relaxing and hanging out with lovely friends! Definitely makings of a good holiday.

Ps. This campsite was found from the book Cool Camping Kids.
